Science Part II

Hello Everyone!

We had a very fun filled week of Science and learning about butterflies!  Last week I picked the insect for you to learn about.  This week you will be picking a different insect to learn about other then the butterfly.  Students will be able to pick from ladybugs, grasshoppers, or ants.  Depending on which insects students pick will determine what groups the students are in.  Students will work together throughout the week to do research on the insect of their choice.  They will be asked to tell the class about the insect by presenting a story involving their insect.  Presentations will be on Friday.  Students will want to be creative with their story.  Make the story books colorful, use lots of pictures, and be creative! (Maybe incorporate a game?)  Parents feel free to email me with any questions or concerns!  My door is always open!

  1. You are doing a number of great things with your students! You are allowing the students to have a choice of what they want to do for their projects, allowing them to be creative, allowing them to interact with their classmates, and allowing the parents to get involved. I really like this assignment, and I know that the students will learn a lot about the subject.

  2. I think this is a great way to bring in both science and language arts. By having the students work with the insect of their choice, then create a story, you are getting two subjects into one lesson. I think this is a great way to teach and that students will also enjoy this activity.

  3. I agree with the comment above, this assignment is very interdisciplinary, which is important in the classroom. By connecting science and language arts, the students are improving their writing while also learning about different insects.
