Writing Assignment

Hello Everyone!

We are back to school and getting back into the swing of things.  Since we are going back to Language Arts, I thought it would be fun if we did some writing about the holiday.  I would like the students to be creative with this.  They can make up a story, poem, song, poster, art project, pretty much anything explaining their Thanksgiving and how it went.  If students do not celebrate Thanksgiving, then they may write about something fun and exciting they did on their two extra days off from school.  As always projects will be due at the end of the week.  Have fun with this project and remember be creative! Think outside of the box!  Email me with any questions you may have regarding the assignment!  Thanks again!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Everyone!

This week we are having another short week.  We only have school three of the five days again! (Yay!)  Since this week is so short I really do not want to start anything new.  I have decided to wrap up the insect lesson with something a little bit different.  The students did such a great job with their projects I decided to make a project of my own.  However, I incorporated technology into my presentation.  I have made a movie maker presention.  It will serve as a review to the students to make sure they are 100% clear on the lifecycle of a butterfly.  Students will want to be sure to pay attention because there may possibly be a mini quiz on after the presentation. (wink wink)  I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your time with family and friends!

Bi Week

Hello Everyone!

Last week a blog was not posted due to the fact that we only had school three of the five days.  The other two days I had in-school conferences.  I know this is a little late but just to let the parents know on those three days we finished up presenting our insect projects.  All the children did a wonderful job! Next week will be doing something a little bit different.  It will be the last week for insects and then we will be able to start something new!

Science Part II

Hello Everyone!

We had a very fun filled week of Science and learning about butterflies!  Last week I picked the insect for you to learn about.  This week you will be picking a different insect to learn about other then the butterfly.  Students will be able to pick from ladybugs, grasshoppers, or ants.  Depending on which insects students pick will determine what groups the students are in.  Students will work together throughout the week to do research on the insect of their choice.  They will be asked to tell the class about the insect by presenting a story involving their insect.  Presentations will be on Friday.  Students will want to be creative with their story.  Make the story books colorful, use lots of pictures, and be creative! (Maybe incorporate a game?)  Parents feel free to email me with any questions or concerns!  My door is always open!

Science

Hello Everyone!

This week we will be starting Science! We will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.  We will be discussing the cycles in depth throughout the week.  I have several activities lined up for the students to complete.  We will be reading the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. On Monday, I will be explaining the life cycle of a butterfly through role play.  The students will use their bodies to demonstrate what metamorphosis looks like. First, they will become an egg. I will have them sit on the floor, grasp their knees, and tuck their head under. Next, the students they will change into caterpillars by stretching out on the floor and wriggling. After that, they will stand very still and cross their arms tightly across their chest to look like the chrysalis. Finally, I will demonstrate how a butterfly gently stretches its wings and begins to flutter. I will allow the students to fly around the room as butterflies in the rain forest. Each day we will do one of these fun activities!  This should be an exciting and eventful week! Email me with any questions or concerns!

Continuing with Times Tables

Hello Everyone!

Last week we started working on our times tables.  I realize that times tables can sometimes be difficult to learn and understand.  I've decided that we will spend this week to continue to work on our times tables.  This week in addition to learning and practicing our times tables, I've decieded to incorporate some fun learning games.  Each day we will play a new game that involved learning and practice different times tables.  We will start this week with a game that can be accessed online.  Students will have Monday and Tuesday to get onto the website and play two of the games.  There will be an hour of class time devoted to this games. Worksheets will be giving out during this hour.  I will rotate two students to the computers every ten minutes.  Students who are not on the computers will work on the worksheets.  I will circulate around the room to assits students who need help wtih the worksheets.  If parents would like to play these games with these children at home I have attached the website where the games can be accessed.  Email me with any questions, concerns,  or difficulties you may have.  Have a great week!

Fun with Numbers!

Hello Class!

Everyone is doing so well with their assingments and I couldn't be happier!  We have accomplished two weeks of language arts and now we are moving onto mathematics.  This week we will be learning about times tables.  I have created a power point that I will post so that both parents and students will be able to do it.  My power point has both the lessons and questions within it.  Students will be required to answer the questions on the Power Point.  We will be using a new technology in class.  This new technology we are using involves clickers.  Hopefully the students will find the lesson more interesting with the use of clickers.  I will be keeping everyone posted!  Check back frequently to see if the Power Point is avaible for viewing!  With any questions or concerns email me!

language arts

Hello class!

This week we will continue to focus on language arts.  Last week you were asked to compare and contrast two animals.  This week you will be writing a story about those same two animals.  Be creative with your story.  Last weeks assignment should make this weeks assignment easier because a lay out to your story should already be created.  The story should be two pages long.  Parents are allowed to help students write their story.  Encourage the children to do their best.  You can also help them by offering suggestions to their story, helping them make correct sentences, and editing their story.  The assignment is due at the end of the week!  If you have any questions please feel free to email me!

Webquest

Dear Parents,

This week your children will be learning how to compare and contrast two animals.  I have created a webquest called A Day at the Zoo.  On this webquest, information will be provided to the students.  Please sit with your child and complete the task together.  All your child will need is paper, crayons/markers/colored pencils, and a stapler.  Encourage your child to be creative with their picture books.  Send the finished product in as a homework assignment on Thursday.  This way the students will be able to present their picture booklets in class on Friday.  Please email with any questions you may have.  I will have a copy of the link attached to this email.  You can access the webquest that way.  Thanks again!
